Goddess by Josephine Angelini (Review)

Goddess Starcrossed #3 (Awakening Series)

Author: Josephine Angelini
Rating:*****
Pages: 464
Publisher: Macmillian
Release Date: May 23, 2013
Audience: Young adult / Teen

Book Description

She must rise, or they will fall . . . Helen's powers are increasing—and so is the distance between her and her mortal friends. To make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a dangerous traitor is lurking among them, and all fingers point to Orion. Still unsure whether she loves him or Lucas, Helen is forced to make a terrifying decision, or risk all-out war. The final book in this heart-stopping trilogy.

Review

First of all, I would like to thank Macmillan for sending me this book for review, it means a lot! I received this book for an honest review.  As you may know, this is the 3rd book in the Awakening Series which continued on from the MASSIVE cliffhanger in Dreamless.

Honestly, I am lost for words. I can say nothing but positive things about Goddess. This book was sensational and funnily enough, surprising. Not having read the prequel for several months made me blind going into this book, and I am delighted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I connected with Helen as if I was right by her side experiencing all that she had, feeling all the emotions she had felt. And there are a lot. Trust me.

From Lucas, Helen and Orion becoming blood brothers in Dreamless, I knew that there was a risk of war as it was foretold in the prophecy. However the setting and events were unexpected yet well suited to the plot. Also, love is a key theme of the book, involving a lot of happy endings and relationships which I thought was fabulous!

I especially enjoyed the major Greek theme that flowed through the book as it really deepened my knowledge and added an extra something to the plot. The storyline was not what I had expected containing some twists here and there- some good, some not so good.

From the very first line of Goddess I was HOOKED and had a huge grin on my face as I predicted that the last book was going to be the best book. My prediction happened to be true. All the questions I had been asking were answered and all the things that didn't seem to make sense configured themselves by the end of the book.

I am so sad to see this series finished as it really was what got me into reading and is a series I will always remember. I am definitely looking forward to future books by Josephine Angelini as she is one of my favourite writers and has proven to be a spectacular writer. I very much enjoy her writing style and unique ideas for books. You NEED to go and get this book on the 23rd! It will not be a disappointment whatsoever. I give this book my highest recommendation!

Gone by Michael Grant (Review)

Gone #1 (Gone Series)

Author: Michael Grant
Rating: ****
Pages:576
Publisher: Egmont Books Ltd
Release Date: Feb 16, 2009
Audience: Young Adult

But everyone's idea of survival is different. Some look after themselves, some look after others, and some will do anything for power...Even kill. For Sam and Astrid, it is a race against time as they try to solve the questions that now dominate their lives...What is the mysterious wall that has encircled the town of Perdido Beach and trapped everyone within? Why have some kids developed strange powers? And can they defeat Caine and his gang of bullies before they turn fifteen and disappear too? It isn't until the world collapses around you that you find out what kind of person you really are. This book offers a chilling portrayal of a world with no rules. When life as you know it ends at 15, everything changes.

Review

You can't see from the image, but the pages are neon yellow. I think we all know why I picked this book up. I really enjoyed reading this book and for the first time, Michael Grant. His writing is spectacular and fast paced. The storyline was great, action packed and contained a little bit of romance here and there. I also loved the characters except for Quinn, Caine and Drake. Some of the characters were very likeable and down to earth, for e.g Edilio, Mary and Albert but then there were some that just got on my nerves. The sci-fi feel from the book was absolutely amazing. The power, animals and darkness slightly creeped me out in a good way.

The impenetrable dome, the FAYZ astonished me. Nothing can get out and nothing in. Knowing who caused it irritated me because working out how to escape the dome a whole lot harder.

The book it set in roughly a week. Quite close to Sam's 15th birthday when people poof. I was left wondering what would happen to Sam and the eldest members of Perdido Beach; would they poof or would they stay? The suspense builds up throughout the book to the end where I was sitting, gripping the pages in anticipation waiting for the final chapter to finish.

I was hooked from the start of the book as the plot was intriguing which led me to finish over half of the book in a few hours. There was action and adventure throughout the book and even made me gasp a few times! Twists, twists, twists..

Much to my dismay, I have not yet got the remaining books in the series butI am very looking forward to getting HUNGER, LIES, PLAGUE, FEAR and LIGHT- the last book in the series, released in March 2013. Hopefully I will enjoy them as much or even more than I enjoyed Gone. I thoroughly recommend Gone, just as it was recommended to me. SASTRID 4 EVA.

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini (Review)

Starcrossed #1 (Awakening Series)

Author: Josephine Angelini
Rating:*****
Pages: 528
Publisher: Macmillian
Release Date: June 3, 2011
Audience: Young adult / Teen

Book description

When shy, awkward Helen Hamilton sees Lucas Delos for the first time she thinks two things: the first, that he is the most ridiculously beautiful boy she has seen in her life; the second, that she wants to kill him with her bare hands. With an ancient curse making them loathe one another, Lucas and Helen have to keep their distance. But sometimes love is stronger than hate, and not even the gods themselves can prevent what will happen.

Review

First off, I adore all things to do with greek mythology so when I saw this; I had to buy it. The cover drew me in as it's so beautiful! I read this book a long time ago and didn't write a review at the time, but it is still one of my favourite books. The plot was interesting and I found it easy to connect with the main character Helen and all the other characters. Although it is quite a long book; 500 pages was the perfect length for the story to develop properly.

Throughout the book I was laughing, sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation waiting to see what would happen next, if Helen or Lucas would do this or if they would do that. Finding this book was one of the best things I could've done.

I can proudly say that I LOVE LUCAS DELOS. He's such an amazing character who we are introduced to near the start of the book. I really got to know him as he developed throughout the book. The only negative thing I could say about this book is that it took me a little while to get into but once I got into it I was HOOKED. I recommended it to my friends and they love the story almost as much as me!

One of my best friends Agrima and I are highly anticipating the third book in the trilogy, 'Goddess' along with eager 'Starcrossed' fans. June is too far away.. :(
I'll be sitting in the corner like a miserable old woman for 5 more months I guess.
